“Rockabilly Boy” by Richie Copalello (Classic Rock Artist from Illinois(IL))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Richie Copalello with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Rockabilly Boy"

"Rockabilly Boy" is a country/rockabilly album with blues elements from Richie Copalello. With "Rockabilly Boy," Copalello digs deep into his multi-instrumentalist repertoire as he plays the drums and guitar on each track, as well as the harmonica, organ, piano, and slide guitar. His vocals, musical styling, and lyrics combine to create a nice musical medium between country and traditional rockabilly. He sings about drinking, dancing, and pick-up trucks and is capable of singing like traditional rockabilly artists or with a crooning country twang similar to Conway Twitty. Copalello put a good deal of effort into making the album sound vintage, and the listener could easily mistake this album for coming straight out of the 1950s. "Whiskey, Whiskey" is a playfully bitter song, as Copalello sings, "Whiskey, whiskey, I thought you was my friend." "Slippery Shoes" is a straight-up rockabilly song, lyrically and musically and makes you feel as though you should be surrounded by poodle skirts. "These Words" effectively builds to a nice 2-part harmonized part that has that authentic 50s sound that is a trademark of this CD.. Overall, "Rockabilly Boy" is a good album that shows Copalello's impressive musical talent, and that uses creative production to capture the sound of decades past. Fans of '50s rock music and rockabilly music, check out "Rockabilly Boy."

“Gravity Rocks” by The Larch (Pop Artist from New York(NY))

RadioIndy is pleased to present The Larch with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Gravity Rocks"

"Gravity Rocks" by The Larch is a very memorable, hook-laden collection of pop/rock tunes. The musical arrangements of these tunes immediately grasp the listener's attention. Catchy, clean guitar riffs and solos, backed by groovy drum arrangements form the musical foundation of these tunes. Moreover, this band proves to have a fine-tuned talent for crafting unforgettable vocal melodies. "That's Where You're Wrong Carruthers" is a superb demonstration of this band's smooth, warm vocals, space-filling background vocal arrangements, skillful lyricism, and tightly synchronized instrumentation. "Copernican Principle" ventures more into an edgier rock arena while maintaining a refreshing pop sensibility. Moreover, this album is crafted with careful, quality production. Fans of vintage, early Beatles-reminiscent pop/rock with an attractive modern flair and witty lyricism will enjoy this CD.

"I Can't Live Like This" by Glenn Gordon (Blues Artist from Georgia(GA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Glenn Gordon with a GrIndie Award for their CD "I Can't Live Like This"

"I Can't Live Like This" is the debut single from Contemporary Jazz singer Glenn Gordon. The song is a snapshot of many different influences. The song features a nice mix of classic and modern Jazz styles, plus quite a bit of R&B flavor. Glenn's voice has some of the qualities of the great Soul singers and his delivery is passionate. The mood is very upbeat, as the song glides its way into your ears. It's one of those songs that brings a smile to your face within the first bar and you can't wipe it off until the last bar. Everything about this song is clear. The arrangement is fantastic. All of the instruments are very complementary to one another and the performances are great. The production quality is also very good - a very crisp recording and great final product. If you enjoy Teddy Pendergrass and Marvin Gaye, you'll enjoy this song.

“Nostalgia” by Darin Seldes (Rock Artist from Atlanta, Georgia(GA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Darin Seldes with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Nostalgia"

"Nostalgia" is a rock album with elements of jazz, funk, zydeco, and reggae from the innovative Darin Seldes. On "Nostalgia" Seldes combines atypical rock instruments – Spanish guitar, organ, horns, mandolin, and piano – with typical instruments to create an original sound. His vocals are also quite unique, accentuated and raspy with an impressive range, comparable to Scottish singer/songwriter Paolo Nutini. The clarity and quality of the production of the album allows the outstanding individual instrumental work to cut through the recording clearly and precisely. The lyrics on "Nostalgia" are oftentimes catchy and playful, though the album as a whole recognizes the difficulties of living in this imperfect world. "Long Awaited Ditty" features a playful and catchy bridge, "This is the section of the song for those who like to sing along." "Crawfish and Boiled Shrimp" is similarly playful as Seldes sings about eating seafood and attending outdoor festivities. Lyrically, "Lonely Incorporated," as one might suspect, is not quite as playful, but the instrumental combination of piano, Spanish guitar, drums, and an electric solo is quite the jam. "Nostalgia" is a true original for fans of a jazzy, funky or reggae-infused rock sound. If you enjoy rock or any of these combined genres, you'll enjoy this excellent CD.

“Out of Mississippi” by Joni Compretta (Country Artist from Mississippi(MS))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Joni Compretta with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Out of Mississippi"

"Out of Mississippi" is a southern country album from female vocalist Joni Compretta. Joni has a strong, demanding voice similar to contemporary country artists like Martina McBride and Faith Hill that is capable of expressing loneliness and joy, hopefulness and helplessness. Most of the songs on "Out of Mississippi" are borrowed from other artists, many of whom are not from Mississippi, but they all tell a decent story and Joni's confident vocals make it seem like she wrote them herself. Her backing band is versatile and musically sound, drawing from the classic rock & roll sound as well as country, and incorporating the piano, mandolin, violin, and steel guitar into a number of songs. The album is well-recorded with no critical errors. "Before You Turn to a Memory" show's Compretta's backing band's musical talent with a sad violin intro, mandolin, steel guitar, and piano all complimenting her powerfully sad vocal. "I Love You," a track that originated on a Faith Hill album, has a nice alternation between smooth jazz saxophone and steel guitar during the melodic verse. With "Out of Mississippi," Joni Compretta has selected some of her favorite songs, borrowed them, and cut them herself in her own stylish way. Fans of strong female vocals and southern country, check this one out.

"Winds of Time" by Dr. David Klee (Jazz Artist from Iowa(IA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Dr. David Klee with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Winds of Time"

"Winds of Time" is a new age smooth jazz album highlighted by the feel-good flute styling of Dr. David Klee, which at once reminds the listener of Herbie Mann's jazzy flute styles. Klee's musicianship is superior, and his arrangements are refreshingly pleasant. The album features a good mix of moods with touches of various voices and themes. As a whole, the songs present an upbeat feel while sending you off into a dream world. With the flute at the forefront, the instrumental variety from the backing band gives each song its own identity, each sounding vastly different from the next. Highlights include the opener, "Atlanta City Nights," a very upbeat track with a distinctive flute line that will liven up any room. The title track, "Winds of Time," opens with some dramatic organic sounds and works its way into a mystery-filled dreamscape. "Missing You So Much" features a nice piano progression and has a bit of an Asian feel to it. If you like new age jazz or beautiful flute-led lullabies, you will enjoy this one.

"Eclectic Guitar" is a versatile alternative rock album from Norwegian band The 99th Floor. The 99th Floor seems to span the '90s alternative sound with this album, but their inventiveness, group vocals, and catchy choruses make the album fresh and enjoyable. “Bring It” by Midori (Electronic Artist from Japan)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Midori with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Bring It"

"Bring It" is a pop rock/pop punk album from Japanese female vocalist Midori and her backing band Audioclique. Midori has a strong, mainstream voice similar to the lead vocalist of Paramore that is sure to take her far, and her group vocals with Audioclique are enjoyable as well. The lyrics on "Bring It" are wistful, heartfelt, longing, and bitter, great for that mainstream sound they seem to be looking for. "Black Monday" and "Take Me There" have catchy choruses one can't help but to sing along to. The recording is clean and professional sounding, ready to hit alternative radio airwaves. The title track, "Bring It," has a fast-paced sound with a great guitar solo while Midori demands your attention with her vocals. "Close Your Eyes" is much slower and stripped down as Midori sings you a lullaby backed only by a beautiful piano progression. Overall, "Bring It" is a fun album and a sparkling debut from Midori/Audioclique that is sure to be all over the radio. Fans of female pop punk, check out "Bring It."

"Swig" by Swig (Hard Rock Artist from California(CA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Swig with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Swig"

This self-titled EP from California bay area rockers "Swig" is a chug from a can of straight-up rock and roll, with a few sips of more sensitive tracks mixed in. Booze, drugs and rock is the name of the game with most of the tracks on the CD. You get big, crunchy guitar riffs, thick rolling rhythms, and true rock vocals on the classic rock tracks. That's the recipe, plain and simple. The influence of 70's and 80's rock is very apparent in their sound on most of the tracks. There's no trickery involved in the rock tracks, just straight up rock n' roll. At the same time, on some of the tracks, the band turns the amps down for ballads that feature female vocals, which add a nice variety to the tracks. This CD is a good rock package that sticks to its roots. Highlights include the opener "Whisky Babe," an excellent kickoff song, with a killer riff and a pumping rhythm section. "Home" breaks it down into a slower tempo and features female vocals. "What Matters the Most" uses an interesting production effect to transition from a car radio sound to a rockin' ballad with gentle female vocals. "Make Me Beg" closes things out nicely with raunchy slide guitar and a punchy rhythm. If you enjoy classic rock, you will enjoy this CD.
