“Close the Door” by Tracylyn (Country Artist from Illinois(IL))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Tracylyn with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Close the Door"

"Close the Door" is the upbeat sophomore effort from contemporary pop country artist Tracylyn. Tracylyn gives a powerful vocal performance with a country twang similar to vocalists such as Faith Hill and Martina McBride. Her backing band is sound and creates solid arrangements that incorporate the violin, piano, and steel guitar into nearly every track complimenting Tracylyn's vocals quite well. The songs are generally up-tempo and are about love, faith and small town life. The lyrics are memorable and the songs are all extremely catchy. The recording quality is very good with a polished vocal sound and clarity of each individual instrument. "Maybe I Made You Up" is a psychological song about falling in love, with a nice melody, a catchy chorus and some nice guitar work. The title track, "Close the Door" is the sole downtempo track on the album, a slow piano ballad with powerful lyrics about a former significant other's "infidelity." Overall, "Close the Door" is a fun album with an impressive vocal performance from Tracylyn, true-to-life lyrics, and great arrangements. Fans of female vocalists and contemporary pop country won't "Close the Door" on Tracylyn.

“African Skies” by Joel Holmes (Jazz Artist from Maryland(MD))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Joel Holmes with a GrIndie Award for their CD "African Skies"

"African Skies" is a traditional jazz album with elements of world fusion from an extremely talented jazz pianist in Joel Holmes. Holmes collaborated with a number of skilled jazz musicians to create this album, including jazz legend Gary Thomas on saxophone and flute, outstanding Cuban percussionist Melena and the Emerald East String Quartet. The resulting arrangements are solid, all out jams. Many of the tracks on "African Skies" follow the traditional jazz sound reminiscent of Herbie Hancock, while others are in the world fusion realm, combining jazz piano with either African drums, or a string quartet to create a unique jazz fusion sound. The album and song titles suggest an element of spirituality and Holmes' compositions follow this concept nicely, making the entire album something of a journey. "African Skies" is also well-produced, with every element of each arrangement brought to life and failing to disappoint. "Impressions take 1" begins with an insane piano progression by Holmes that immediately puts him up there with great jazz pianists like Thelonious Monk and Oscar Peterson. Enjoy this one as it unfolds unfolds into a great traditional jazz number. "Chinese fishing song" features the Emerald East String Quartet, with a soaring violin coupled with Holmes on the piano, creating a unique jazz fusion sound. Gary Thomas carries "African Skies" and "Fatima" with sax and flute solos, respectively. "African Skies" is truly an original album that any jazz and jazz fusion fan should add to their collection.

“This is a Test” by Solution (Rock Artist from South Dakota(SD))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Solution with a GrIndie Award for their CD "This is a Test"

"This is a Test" is a six-track funk EP from Solution that fuses their underlying funk sound with rock, pop, reggae and jazz. Solution is a musically sound group and shows their range by innovating their sound with each track. The lead singer has a naturally soothing voice similar to Phish vocalist Trey Anastasio, but his range will remind the listener of such bands as Wilco, Murder by Death and Primus - depending on the track. The lyrics are socially conscious, as "No Surprise" reminds the listener that "Around the world people are hungry" and asks, "Will reality just simply fall away?" "This is a Test" is well-recorded, but pushes the envelope as far as conventionality is concerned. "Hide Away" begins with a gristly, raw piano and flows into a sharp, crisp sound soon thereafter, indicating that Solution made a conscious effort to do so. "Hot Sauce" nicely fuses Solution's funk sound with jazz by incorporating jazzy flute, piano and horns with an outstanding funky bass beat. "Dig" is a fast-paced song with an overall funky beat and fast lyrics of which Les Claypool would be proud. "This is a Test" is a fun album with impressive and broad musicianship, nice vocals, and meaningful lyrics. For anyone in search of a good new funk album, here's your Solution.

“Invitation” by Jeff Jones and Mosaic (Latin Artist from Arizona(AZ))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Jeff Jones and Mosaic with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Invitation"

"Invitation" is an excellent contemporary Latin jazz album from Jeff Jones and Mosaic. Jones, the leader of the group, is a saxophonist by trade and adds a smooth jazz element to the Latin jazz feel. His backing band, Mosaic, is incredible, tight and each member is held in high esteem in the Latin jazz circuit of the Southwest. Mosaic brings their wonderful talents on piano, flute, bass, and drums. Each member gets their solo opportunity, their time to lead the band and they all shine in their roles. "Invitation" is full of unselfish, improvisational and fun tracks. The underlying Latin feel of each song will give even the most unlikely of characters the urge to dance. The record is polished and crisp, with each note from each instrument sounding firm, compelling, and excellent. "Morning" opens things up with that classic and danceable Latin jazz sound with great piano and flute lines that gives you a feel for the entire album. "Favela" has a great layering of sounds with the Latin-infused piano, drum and flute, pauses a moment for a great drum solo, then picks up right where it left off. With "Invitation," Jeff Jones and Mosaic have created a great collaborative album full of Latin flare and intense solos from every instrument in the same vein of predecessors Tito Puente and Cal Tjader. Any fan of contemporary Latin jazz or, simply, any jazz fan, should add "Invitation" to their collection.

“Songs Without Words” by Jeff Calcara (Classical Artist from California(CA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Jeff Calcara with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Songs Without Words"

"Songs Without Words" is a soothing collection of instrumental classical/folk guitar compositions from Jeff Calcara. Calcara's musicianship is similar to that of folk guitarist Leo Kottke, though Calcara leans more toward the classical end than folk. Each song is lulling, original and carefully crafted; conveying a soothing, powerful and emotional message solely created from the picking and strumming of an acoustic guitar. "Songs Without Words" is also well-produced, with each note hitting the listeners ears crisply and cleanly. "Song of the Sea" is a befitting title as the song carries you away and hits you in waves of guitar perfection. The trio of tracks, "Lullaby #1," "Lullaby #2," and "Lullaby #3" make you want to just close your eyes and listen, putting you in such a state of relaxation that you may find it hard to avoid a complete state of subconsciousness. Collectively, "Songs Without Words" is an incredible album that shows the raw and lasting talent of guitarist Jeff Calcara. Guitar aficionados and anyone who simply enjoys a lulling classical/folk guitar sound should definitely pick this one up.

“Nikki Corfield and the Pocket Rocket Band” by Nikki Corfield and the Pocket Rocket Band (Pop Artist from United Kingdom)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Nikki Corfield and the Pocket Rocket Band with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Nikki Corfield and the Pocket Rocket Band"

"Nikki Corfield and the Pocket Rocket Band" is the self-titled Brit pop album brought to you by a strong group of UK musicians. The key characteristic of this album is the powerful vocal performance from Corfield. Her strong, British alto voice is similar to contemporary Brit pop female vocalists Amy Winehouse and Duffy. The Pocket Rocket Band backs Corfield's vocals nicely with solid work on the keyboard and guitars, producing a diverse musical styling. Combined, the group has created an album filled with great arrangements, from bitter pop songs to heartfelt piano ballads. The recording quality of this self-titled album is excellent, with polished beats ready to hit the clubs and quiet ballads with clean instrumentation and vocals at the forefront. "Still Waiting" opens with a great acoustic guitar solo over a nice piano progression that shortly thereafter introduces a beat that turns the song into a pop dance number. "End of the World" is a soulful piano ballad about feeling overwhelmed that has a great arrangement, including a string section. "Feel the Love" has a more poppy and upbeat feel that has a significantly sunnier disposition than the rest of the album. "Nikki Corfield and the Pocket Rocket Band" is an impressive self-titled album with an outstanding and big vocal from Nikki Corfield and talented backing arrangements from the Pocket Rocket Band. Fans of Brit pop and soothing female vocals should grab this album.

"Realizing the Dream" by Bryan Austin (Spiritual Artist from Missouri(MO))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Bryan Austin with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Realizing the Dream"

Bryan Austin's "Realizing the Dream" is a traditional gospel album from a talented singer with a tremendous amount of faith. Bryan's journey is a passionate one. Austin approaches every song differently and puts everything he has into his performance. He has an impressive vocal range and belts it out with passion, raw emotion, and intimacy to the likes of Aaron Neville and Luther Vandross. Austin bares himself to his audience hoping the audience will, in turn, bear witness to the spiritual presence of the Lord. The arrangements are simple and could all be intimated inside a house of the Lord since Austin treats each track like a soulful gospel hymn. It's all about good old fashioned praise. The recording quality of "Realizing the Dream" nicely matches the rawness of Austin's vocal performance and doesn't rely on any effects to be effective. Highlights include "The Anchor Holds," which gives you a first taste of Austin's talent as a vocalist and really kicks off the journey. "Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus" features some nice harmony and layering in the vocals and plays on a familiar song of patriotism. "Were You There" wraps things up with a nice guitar progression and beautiful female backing vocals. If you enjoy good ol' fashioned, soulful gospel, give "Realizing the Dream" a listen.

"Soul Groove" by Kyle Wolverton (Jazz Artist from Los Angeles, California(CA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Kyle Wolverton with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Soul Groove"

"Soul Groove" is the saxophone led contemporary smooth jazz solo debut from Kyle Wolverton. Primarily an instrumental album, Wolverton drives this record with his outstanding sax skills and creates a unique sound by combining the smooth jazz sound with the heavy influence of the R&B and gospel genres. "Soul Groove" is filled with saxophone led melodies that show Wolverton's mastery and control of all three genres. Four of the songs include vocal stylings which feature various Los Angeles based artists. These songs are crafted in a smooth R&B style and are reminiscent of Keith Sweat and Luther Vandross. The album is well-produced and gives each song that polished quality smooth jazz albums typically require. The title track, "Soul Groove," fuses together R&B and smooth jazz and gives a flush song that brings about the likeness of Marvin Gay and Kenny G. “Now’s The Time” by Chetenge (Reggae Artist from Jamaica)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Chetenge with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Now's The Time"

"Now's The Time" is the four-track CD single from female vocalist Chetengé that alternates between two genres that she clearly has her head around; smooth R&B and reggae. This single is broken down and remixed in four different ways – a smooth R&B vocal, an island reggae vocal, a hip-hop/R&B instrumental and a primarily instrumental reggae version with an occasional note or two from Chetengé. The song itself is catchy and clearly of single caliber, with the melodic chorus, "Now is the time to let my love be heard/I've waited in silence forever." Chetengé's vocals are versatile and sound natural when she matches both the R&B and reggae sounds. The single was produced by British songwriter/producer (S.Tucker) and all four tracks are well-mixed and of excellent quality. "Now's the Time (Rub-a-Dub Mix)" uses a traditional reggae beat that gives a nice, relaxing island feel. "Now's the Time (Rnb Instrumental)" highlights good production skills since it takes a break from the vocals and contains a nice hip-hop beat with R&B elements. As a CD single, "Now's The Time" takes a catchy song and remixes it four times to show Chetengé's vocal talents and the talents of the producer. For fans of female vocalists, smooth R&B and reggae, "Now's The Time" to check out Chetengé.

“Native Slovak” by David Martinka (World Artist from Michigan(MI))

RadioIndy is pleased to present David Martinka with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Native Slovak"

"Native Slovak" is a flute-infused instrumental world music album from flutist extraordinaire David Martinka. With this album, Martinka digs deep into his flute repertoire and presents the listener with classic flute styles inspired by both Native Slovakian and Native American flute courting styles. Some of the sounds Martinka creates are familiar and clear, like those one would expect from an woodwind ensemble. Others are drastically different, tribal sounding, and similar in sound to the didgeridoo. The songs on "Native Slovak" are pure, powerful, and spiritual and match the emotional feeling that each song title suggests. The album is also very well recorded, so the listener doesn't miss a single note. "Rodný Slovák (Native Slovak)" opens the album with an intense Native American sound that gives the listener a feel for the entire album, created by Martinka's use of the Fujara to give much of the song that didgeridoo-esque sound. "Do videnia dievča (I will See Her Soon)" is a mellow, calming, and emotional track with a more orchestral flute sound that tells the story the song title suggests. Overall, "Native Slovak" is an impressive album that shows Martinka's talent as a flutist on a variety of different flutes. If you enjoy world-class flute playing that tells a good story, check out "Native Slovak."

“Viva Mayday” by Viva Mayday (Rap Artist from New York City, New York(NY))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Viva Mayday with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Viva Mayday"

"Viva Mayday" is the politically charged self-titled debut from reggae rock outfit Viva Mayday. A typical rock three piece – guitar, bass and drums – Viva Mayday rely heavily upon the upstroke to create their classic reggae sound. They also incorporate punk and classic rock elements into their music, showing their musical talent and diversity. The lead singer's vocals are uniformly in the style of traditional reggae and fused with a variety of musical styles, Viva Mayday show likeliness to Bob Marley, Dispatch, The Clash and Sublime at different points on the album. All the while, their lyrics are reminiscent of Rage Against the Machine. Viva Mayday's songs are jam-packed with socially aware, politically charged lyrics that exploit the bands disgruntledness, for the most part, with American foreign policy. "Viva Mayday" is also well-produced, sure to keep both the music and lyrics polished and audible. "Fidel" opens with an incredible Hendrix-style guitar solo as they sing about "the war machine" and "propane democracy." "Missionaries" reflects the "give peace a chance" mentality of the entire album with a Marley-esque vocal, suggesting that even the people that mean perfectly well are struggling to survive abroad. "1963 Motorcade" is a song about the assassination of JFK and conspiracy theories against the government. "Viva Mayday" is certainly opinionated and controversial. If you enjoy what Rage Against the Machine offers lyrically and punk-infused reggae rock, you should give this album a listen.

"Villiantine's Day" is an East Coast experimental hip-hop album from Chaos Da Verbal Villain that features innovative production and rhymes that push the envelope. Chaos brings extreme intensity and a powerful delivery to the table. His lyrics are controversial and well-constructed, and his creative choices present a new innovation with each new song. "Villaintine's Day" is professionally produced and sounds fantastic. Highlights include "Verbal Vybin," with strong lyrics, a nice hook, and an interesting beat. "Mental Madness" features an incredible beat, cool claps, and a hauntingly zany vibe. "For The Love featuring Ajent Smif" has a cool cat jazz vibe, a slick bass line, and a strong guest vocal. "Fracción de Segundo" is a Latin alternative pop album featuring beautiful melodies and and upbeat sensibility from Honduran band Anima. Anima combines the pop rock sound of the early Beatles, as well as of the '80s with a hint of Latin and directs it towards Latin audience – sort of like if Peter Gabriel or Sting sang in Spanish. RadioIndy is pleased to present Feed the Need with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Feed the Need"

"Feed the Need" is an enjoyable self-titled rock album with surf rock and jazz elements from Feed the Need. Though all four band members are still in high school, Feed the Need has crafted an album that displays their strong musical capabilities on guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards. The vocals are youthful and the lyrics are full of angst, as many of the songs are undoubtedly about the girls they obsess over at their schools. Nevertheless, you'll find yourself bobbing your head to the beat and singing along with the catchy choruses, agreeing that "Weirdness makes the world go 'round." The title track "Feed the Need" is well recorded and allows these youngsters to be heard to their full potential. "Light Up My World" has great keyboard and guitar progressions at the introduction and a catchy chorus to boot. The highlight of the album is "Without Words," which is an instrumental jam session with great bass and keyboard lines and an impressive guitar solo showcasing the band's musical finesse. "Vegas Suite" is a funky smooth jazz album that features fantastic guitar and bass work from multiinstrumentalist Frank Fabio. The album as a whole is very upbeat and refreshing with catchy, well layered, and diverse arrangements. Fabio is a pro at feeling out the different energies in his work, and he definitely puts his veteran skills on display with this album. The cornerstone of any instrumental album is the ability to tell a story without the addition of lyrics, and Fabio very much succeeds at that with "Vegas Suite." Fabio is also a great musician, both on bass and guitar, and has a full understanding of music. Highlights include "Love Is," a perfect example of instrumental storytelling that almost paints a picture of love in your mind. "Yes and No" is a wonderfully erratic number that showcases Frank's ability as a bassist and features some excellent piano and drum work as well. "Battleboy" is a loungy number with a house beat and relaxing atmospheric elements. "Vegas Suite" is an impressive album from Frank Fabio that showcases his talents both as a multiinstrumentalist and as a musical storyteller. "Good Company" is the acoustic folk rock debut from talented female singer/songwriter SyndiLee. SyndiLee is a passionate vocalist that puts everything into each and every word she sings. Her vocals are very good too, with a good mix of strength and beauty reminiscent of female singer/songwriter predecessors Melissa Etheridge and KT Tunstall. Her lyrics are poetic, intelligent, and socially conscious, and her great deliveries make it easy to sing along. The arrangements behind her vary both in style and in instrumentation but remain true to the pure, acoustic folk sound. “The Blessing” by Larry Randall (Spiritual Artist from Texas(TX))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Larry Randall with a GrIndie Award for their CD "The Blessing"

"The Blessing" is a four CD, eighty-six song spiritually inspiring, contemporary jazz gospel box set from Larry Randall. Randall believes that he was called upon to minister the word of God with music, to express the Holy Ghost within him through song in hopes of inspiring the Holy Ghost in his listener. Not surprisingly, all eighty-six songs are filled with religious imagery and spiritual, joyous, Biblical, and even prophetic lyrics. Vocally, Randall is a crooner, and at times sounds similar to Frank Sinatra and Michael Bublé. The arrangements are typically simple and soft, so as not to overshadow Randall's message, but they are great collaborative efforts that hail from a variety of genres, including smooth jazz, big band, gospel, soul, Latin, Hindi, rock & roll, and R&B. The recording quality of "The Blessing" is quite good, and the arrangements and vocals both sound polished and professional. "We Are Home" is a slow smooth jazz number with smooth saxophone solos and lyrics of faith and unity. "Speak of His Joy" is a big band tune you could swear was actually being sung by Sinatra, and has more religious imagery about salvation and grace. "His Name is Jesus" has a great jazz arrangement as Randall pilfers through all of the names for Jesus. "Stand" is a fast-paced song with a Hindi-music-inspired arrangement and a group chant vocal. "Faithful and True" is a gospel song with a great organ-led arrangement and is a conversation between Randall and Jesus. "The Blessing" is a bold box set with great arrangements and ministering lyrics, and is it mere coincidence that it is a Bible-sized effort? Fans of contemporary jazz gospel looking to worship God through song, pick up Larry Randall's box set.

BiGGs' has the vocal ability to intimidate as well as to bring the ladies to their knees. He has a great singing voice as well as a great flow reminiscent of the Notorious B.I.G. and Lil Wayne. The backing music sequence supports this intimidation/coercion dichotomy, as you get a thick, bumping beat with subtle and varied accents and quirky yet atmospheric synths. The second track, the instrumental version of "Look Good," gives you a whole different perspective on the track and allows you to focus on the dramatic hints. The a capella version stands on its own as well; you definitely feel the rhythm without hearing it, and it paints a complete picture of BiGGs' talents as an emcee. This single is recorded excellently, so the track sounds great as a whole and broken down. "Pound-4-Pound" certainly leaves you wanting to hear more of what BiGGs has to offer the music world in both arrangement and vocals. If you enjoy the Miami style of hip-hop, you'll enjoy this CD.

"New Wine" is a progressive Christian hard rock album from Realign, a tight band with a cutting edge sound. The listener is immediately pulled in by Realign's awesome driving guitar sound that, combined with energetic yet sensitive vocals and a killer rhythm section, is a recipe for a winner. The production quality of "New Wine" is fantastic, mixed to really bring everything forward and electrify your ear drums. The quality of sound can also be attributed to a well-layered sound created by polished musicians. "Seventeenth Parallel " by Seventeenth Parallel (Rock Artist from Ohio(OH))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Seventeenth Parallel with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Seventeenth Parallel"

Seventeenth Parallel shares their faith with you in the form of southern hard rock with this self-titled album. The power of this band is evident from the get go with a full sound, noteworthy lyrics, and an inspirational passion. The songs all have a great arena quality that makes you want to see the band live. The vocal performance is reminiscent of the southern alternative rock sound of the late '90s from the likes of 3 Doors Down and Creed. Musically, Seventeenth Parallel performs at a high skill level and the entire band is tight, so the arrangements are all solid, catchy, and immediately reel you in. The album is well mixed, putting the vocals right up front and allowing all the instruments to cut through the mix. Highlights include the opener, "Let me Run," which introduces Seventeenth Parallel as a spiritual southern rock band without delay and without question. The song has all the makings of a single. "Here I Am To Worship" is a powerful ballad of worship that features a piano-sounding guitar intro. "Shelter" opens with a thick bass line, with the track evolving into an intense rockin' journey. “All My Days” by Corinne Gooden (Folk Artist from Tennessee(TN))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Corinne Gooden with a GrIndie Award for their CD "All My Days"

"All My Days" is the impressive debut from folk singer/songwriter Corinne Gooden. Throughout the album, Gooden shows magnificent control of her voice and has an emotional inflection that heightens the personal sentiments in her writing. Her vocal performance is similar to contemporary female singer/songwriters like Paula Cole, Sarah McLachlan, and Bonnie Raitt. Gooden's lyrics are very personal and honest, and she sings them with such conviction and melody that the listener becomes hooked and must know what she'll sing about next. The musical arrangements are also quite good, highlighted by fantastic piano/organ progressions and beautiful acoustic guitar that skillfully back Gooden's vocal performance. The recording quality of "All My Days" is excellent, so the vocals and arrangements are clean and crisp, leaving nothing to be desired. The title track, "All My Days," is a slow, sad, and personal song with a piano and guitar accompaniment in which Gooden shows her tremendous vocal range. "Goodbye" is a more uptempo rock number about learning how to say goodbye to someone you don't necessarily want to ever say goodbye to. Overall, "All My Days" is a superb debut from a talented singer/songwriter that knows how to write her feelings down and vocalize them. Fans of good folk lyricists and female vocalists should check out this excellent CD.

"Life Worth Living" by Ross Royce (Rock Artist from New Zealand)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Ross Royce with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Life Worth Living"

Ross Royce puts it perfectly in his short, spoken word opening to "Mrs. Vain," the second track off his album "Life Worth Living" - "this is rock & roll." Royce, who creates most of the sounds that you hear on the album, spans the genre instrumentally and vocally. He seems to transform musically from track to track, ranging from the masterfully crafted piano rock sound of Ben Folds to an acoustic Bowie to a bluesy number reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughn, and finally to Floyd-esque space rock. The recording is clean, and allows each track to live up to its full potential. Ross's vocals work well in these rock and roll tracks. The highlight of the album, in our view, is the three track block of "Suzanne," "Hello People Pt. 2," and "Suzanne's Meditation." The tracks flow, each a response to the next, and give a crisp space/arena/art rock feel, thereby showcasing Ross's excellent songwriting and instrumental talent. For people who enjoy listening to albums from beginning to end and vocal stylings that remind you at once of the eighties and indie artists like Art Brut and Bloc Party, check out what this creative CD.

"It's Probably Me" by Vincent Lynch (Blues Artist from Ireland)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Vincent Lynch with a GrIndie Award for their CD "It's Probably Me"

Vincent Lynch's "It's Probably Me" is an EP that features Vincent's excellent musical talents, across multiple genres, from blues to pop. There is quite a lot of variation present on this 4-track EP: It starts with a remake of "I Got the Music in Me" with a jazz-influenced piano progression dubbed with an electronica/dance sound. Next, the EP moves to a bluesy electric guitar riff fused with a solid brass section on track 2. Then, Vincent presents a simple, clean acoustic sound on track 3. And finally the EP closes out with a dance club remix version of "I Got the Music in Me." Lynch's vocals are quite similar to the blues-oriented vocals of Eric Clapton. The lyrics of the 2 original tracks are strong. The bluesy, heartbreaking "Story of the Blues" displays Lynch's lyrical prowess when he sings, "Everybody knows what the blues is all about." More aesthetically pleasing is the simple, acoustic title track, which shows Lynch at his lyrical and musical best. "It's Probably Me" is a beautiful acoustic number with a tidal wave of mood setting sounds. No matter the sound, light and acoustic or loud and electronic, the EP displays Lynch's musical talents. If you have eclectic musical tastes and enjoy hearing a new talented artist, give this EP a try. http://www.radioindy.com/bands/4586/

“Heart Worn Sleeve” by B.B. Wolfe (Blues Artist from Michigan(MI))

RadioIndy is pleased to present B.B. Wolfe with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Heart Worn Sleeve"

"Heart Worn Sleeve" is an aptly titled, impressive blues/folk album from B.B. Wolfe. THe CD also showcases the Goldmine Pickers, who bring a slight country flavor to the album as well. The album is stripped down, relying solely on purely acoustic instruments – guitar, banjo, violin, and accordion – to back his sad, storytelling lyrics. Wolfe's lyrics portray a sense of longing, of lost love, of sorrow and sadness, and are the most defining quality of the album. His raspy vocals combined with his folk sound, reliance on acoustic instruments, and longing lyrics, should remind the listener of the classic Dylan album, "Another Side of Bob Dylan." The recording quality is very good as well. Wolfe longs for what could have been on the track "Something Tells Me It's Not True" when he sings, "I've been holding onto this old guitar/I should have been holding you." "In Three-Quarter Time" incorporates the accordion into Wolfe's musical styling, and the song title itself should imply that he knows what he's doing musically. "Heart Worn Sleeve" is an excellent album that displays B.B. Wolfe's powerful storytelling capabilities and should be looked into by anyone who enjoys a good blues/folk/country fusion.

"Stay Groovy" by Totemzombies (Classic Rock Artist from Mexico)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Totemzombies with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Stay Groovy"

"Stay Groovy" is an impressive instrumental rock EP put together by Mexico City four piece Totemzombies. As the album title suggests, the influence of '60s psychedelia and the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Frank Zappa is well apparent, as these guys turn out one rhythm heavy jam after another. The entire band is tight, and they understand the relationship of their instruments. "Stay Groovy" is a very raw sounding album, as the band recorded it live in studio. You'll enjoy the fact that the band lets you hear their music as it is. It's essentially how it would sound if you saw Totemzombies live, since each track appears to be done in one take and at times seems to be improvisational. "Watermelon" kicks things off with a grooving bass line, banging drums, and wailing guitar solos. "Cameleon" slows things down a bit and features more incredible guitar work. "Butterfly" closes things out with a quirky guitar riff and some nice work on the drums. With "Stay Groovy," Totemzombies are trying to keep the psychedelic movement alive through stunning guitar riffs and all-out jams. If you like '60s psychedelia and a tight instrumental rock sound, "Stay Groovy" with the Totemzombies.

"Travelin' Show" by Bowen (Rock Artist from Alberta, Canada)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Bowen with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Travelin' Show"

"Travelin' Show" is an excellent adult rock fusion album from talented singer/songwriter Bowen. Bowen's lyrics travel straight from the heart to the page, and he expresses them with a great vocal performance similar to Chris Martin of Coldplay and Gavin DeGraw. He combines these talents with a cutting edge sound and great production to bring you an album that is here to stay. Above all, "Travelin' Show" is an album of great songs, each and every track so catchy that you will find yourself simultaneously singing along and reveling in Bowen's creativity. The songs are filled with great melodies and a nice layering of sounds both in the vocals and in the arrangements. If that isn't enough, the quality of the recordings is excellent with every facet of the sound represented throughout. Highlights include "Back On You," with a great vocal performance, intense lyrics, and a fantastic relationship of sounds in the arrangement. The title track, "Travelin' Show," features a tight beat and is as powerful as it is melodic. "Jaded" soothes your ears with guitar delays and gets your heart pumping with an energetic vocal performance. With "Travelin' Show," Bowen has created a memorable record filled with strong male vocals, heartfelt lyrics, and cutting edge production. If you enjoy the pop rock sound and male singer/songwriters, give this CD a listen.

"Education of Life" by Smooth4Lyfe is an upbeat hip-hop album based on positivity and catchy hooks. This album is a breath of fresh air and takes you back to the days of Tribe Called Quest and DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. The lyrics are very clever, the flow is great, and the vocal performances are fantastic. Behind the words, you get great production; so the songs are polished and radio ready. The arrangements are top-notch, with great variance in the beats and accompaniment that really brings the sound to life, pulling you out of your La-Z-Boy and getting you bumpin' and grinnin'. Highlights include "Drop That," with a classic beat, fresh lyrics, and a nice hook. The title track, "Education of Life," features conversational breaks, introduces a bit of a dark side to Smooth4Lyfe, and has a great hypnotic quality. RadioIndy is pleased to present Sir Bell Siqq with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Shame The Devil, Tell The Truth"

"Shame The Devil, Tell The Truth" is a hardcore gangsta rap album featuring powerful beats and high energy, cleverly delivered vocals from Sir Bell Siqq. This album does not mess around, as Sir Bell Siqq brings you his long resume of street credibility in the form of music. The content is a true window into the gangsta lifestyle. The arrangements behind him are appropriately subtle and succeed in creating a sound consistent with a harsh environment. "Shame The Devil, Tell The Truth" has a great recording quality, so every rhyme is clear and understood. "Torments" by Immundus (Electronic Artist from Norway)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Immundus with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Torments"

"Torments" is a haunting ambient album from Norwegian artist Immundus. Prepare yourself: one listen may force you to sleep with the lights on. Immundus creates an overall atmosphere of horror, suspense and distortion. Though the mood is dark, you'll hear some nice melodies and temporary hints of hope throughout. The arrangements are powerful enough to make you create your own horrific scene in your mind, like a horror movie without the movie. "Torments" is well-produced and allows the listener to hear those dark, disturbing ambient sounds as cleanly as possible. "I Walk Through the Shadows" opens thing up with creepy yet melodic bells and works its way into a disturb-o-rama of sounds. "To Where the Spirits Dwell" fills your ears with faint chants, creepy soundscapes, and a feeling that evil is approaching. "The Grieving Widow" wraps things up nicely with organic elements in the beginning and a nice progression in the end that speaks to the title. "Taking Chances" by Gunner Jump (Rock Artist from California(CA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Gunner Jump with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Taking Chances"

Gunner Jump's "Taking Chances" is a Christian country rock EP brought to you by the powerful duo of Jon Jump and J.G. "Gunner" Franklin. The influence of '70s southern rock is a big part of the sound, as well as blues, funk, and R&B, and the emphasis on good songwriting is well apparent throughout. Gunner's vocals are energetic, and he delivers the inspiring and well thought out lyrics nicely with a great rock feel. The arrangements showcase Gunner Jump's great variance in what is largely an arena sound. There are some creative changes as well as instruments introduced that are clearly inspired by genres outside of Christian country rock. The production quality is good, so turn up the volume on this one. Highlights include "California," with its gritty lead guitar and great rock lyrics, and the addition of horns in the chorus adds a burst of power. "Remember Me" has a nice acoustic guitar progression, inspiring lyrics, and a great vocal performance. "You're My Girl" opens with an uncharacteristic drum machine and evolves into a beautiful love song. If you enjoy spiritual southern rock that takes a few chances, give Gunner Jump a try.

"EarthTones II" is an inspiring easy listening album from a talented group of musicians in Pamela Weng and Friends. Weng and her thirteen friends hail from eight distinct cultures, each member bringing a unique interpretation of music to the project. Collectively, they are a musically sound group with a gratuitous amount of musical chemistry, and they take the listener all around the world with the sounds they create. Musically, Weng and friends are in touch with nature and quite literally create the tones of the earth in the most eclectic of ways. Weng's vocal appears on a couple of tracks, "They Slice The Air – poem," which has a sort of speakeasy feel, and "Garden of Stars," which is a beautiful and inspiring strong vocal performance. "EarthTones II" is well-produced and does justice to the hard work and enormous amount of creativity that went into the album. "Crescent Moon" introduces the album with a slow alternation between the piano and Native American flute backed by slow waves created by successive taps on a cymbal. "Orion the Hunter" is a great jazz number introduced with a piano solo then turns into an all-out jam with shakers, drums, flute, and guitar. "Outback Ochre" and "Outback" both incorporate the didgeridoo to make the listener one with Australian nature. "EarthTones II" is a great easy listening album with a fascinating blend of cultures and musicians from all around the world. "Kisses in the Evening" by Dynamic Destony is an enjoyable '80s-influenced, hard-hitting club album that features pulsing rhythms, thumping beats, and a sound comprised of many different electronic elements. This album is simultaneously energetic, aggressive, loud, and smooth, and it doesn't waste any time in giving you the urge to dance. Shades of '80s bands like Dead or Alive and Human League are ever-present in both the arrangements and the vocals, but Dynamic Destony create a unique sound by combining this with electronica and trance elements. With "Kisses in the Evening," you get power and pump as well as catchy melodies and flavorful vocals. The production quality is excellent, and the songs are all ready to spin. Standouts include the title track, "Kisses in the Evening," which bursts out of the speakers with a fat beat, strong vocals, and extreme danceability. "My Angel" features classic '80s hooks and opens a window into a bit of a darker side of Dynamic Destony's sound. "Baby Don't You Want Me" is a good choice for a closer that starts out very minimal and erupts into an epic final burst of energy. "Pluto's Melancholy…Music From a Dismissed Planet – Volume 1" is an ambient new age instrumental EP from The Lily Pond Orchestra. The Lily Pond Orchestra is comprised of one man, Douglas J.P. Lee, who is the mind behind every aspect related to the making of this album. The album title should suggest a concept, and Lee embraces and well-achieves this concept by creating an interpretation of what Plutonian music sounds like. The result is a thoroughly haunting, drifting, meditative, contemplative, and peaceful ambient sound. Through the mediums of synthesizer and keyboard, Lee paints a picture that truly shows what it means to be a digital musical artist. The recording quality is also very good and succeeds in allowing the listener to drift off as carelessly and as happily as possible. "Of Myth and Mystery" has a very new age-y feel as Lee turns up the synthesizers for our listening pleasure and makes you feel as though you are drifting between stars. The opener, "Two Feathers," brings an Asian feel to the table and establishes the tone with airy sounds and a big beat. "Compassion" lowers your heart rate immediately with strings and choral elements. "Never Tell a Stranger" wraps things up nicely with dramatic bass, spacey synths, and a sense of closure. "The Above" is an enjoyable album that takes the listener on a spiritual journey through music inspired by genres that span the globe. If you enjoy new age music with electronica elements, you will surely enjoy The Above.

“…Miles and Miles…” by Zhonray (Easy Listening Artist from United Kingdom)

RadioIndy is pleased to present Zhonray with a GrIndie Award for their CD "…Miles and Miles…"

"…Miles and Miles…" is an excellent easy listening album with elements of pop, country, and rock by Zhonray. Here, Zhonray brings an adult contemporary concept album and incorporates a wide range of instruments throughout to bring you an original and unique sound. The idea of freedom from the material world is ever present in the lyrics and the compositions are superb. The overall sound is very aurally pleasing, as Zhonray incorporates wind chimes, sitar, and slide guitar all into the same album and, in turn, achieves musical diversity. His vocals have a very distinct quality to them, but on a song like "Just a Chance," with the right accompaniment and inflection, the vocal performance is similar to Belle & Sebastian. The recording quality of "…Miles and Miles…" is good and ready to hit the radio airwaves – in fact, the track "Mile and Mile3" was recorded for that very purpose. "Summer Rain" has a world pop feel with the incorporation of the sitar, effective lyrics, and a nice arrangement. "In Nobody's Way" is a heartbreakingly poetic and lyrically slow rock song about letting someone go. With "…Miles and Miles…," Zhonray has created an idealistic album filled with diverse adult contemporary arrangements and strong lyrics. Fans of consequential easy listening will drift away for "…Miles and Miles…" with this impressive CD by Zhonray.

"Shadow of a Mountain" by VIR (Rock Artist from San Francisco, California(CA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present VIR with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Shadow of a Mountain"

"Shadow of a Mountain" by VIR is a dreamy and melodic shoegaze-style alternative rock album that features good songwriting and an innovative, experimental sound. The influence of early new wave punk is well represented in VIR's sound, but they bring it to you in their own original way. These guys are pretty edgy and aren't afraid to take chances. There is an ever-present, grounding rawness to the sound, and the power-packed melodies will entertain your ears. The vocal performances are excellent, with a great vulnerable quality that lies underneath a strong voice. The lyrics are interesting as well, displaying a lingual sense while tugging at your emotions. "Shadow of a Mountain" is very well-recorded and maintains a nice analog quality. Highlights include "Wake Up Son," with excellent layering of guitar sounds and cool effects. "The Kicker" features a great vocal performance, progressive rhythm, and nice melodies. "Montana" wraps things up nicely with an atonal progression and an overall broodiness. If you enjoy experimental, modern sounds combined with a new wave, shoegaze sound, "Shadow of a Mountain" will be right up your alley.

"Ropatt IV" by Ropatt (Jazz Artist from California(CA))

RadioIndy is pleased to present Ropatt with a GrIndie Award for their CD "Ropatt IV"

"Ropatt IV" by Ropatt is an instrumental jazz-pop album full of catchy arrangements and airy smoothness. The first thing you will notice with this act is their advanced level of writing; the songs are intricately layered but remain listenable at the same time. The progressions are well thought out and allow Ropatt to create a nice array of sounds. Variety is another big element of "Ropatt IV" as the vibe switches between relaxed and upbeat throughout the album, sometimes mixing the two. It is well-produced and well-mixed, allowing you to hear the big sound that Ropatt has created. "Slam Dunk" is an awakening opener with a larger than life intro that gives you a first glimpse at the talents of the artist and a nice transition into a funked-out musical journey. "Pumpin' In Palm Springs" features some urban beats, but the real story with this song is melody and flow. "Fundamentals" is another smooth number with nice melody and great complimentary elements. "Ropatt IV" is a thorough and impressive musical feat with intelligently written songs and a great overall smooth sound. If you enjoy smooth jazz with an urban touch, give Ropatt IV a listen.

"The Big Fat Pet Clams From Outer Space" by O.L.P.B. (Punk Artist from New Jersey(NJ))

RadioIndy is pleased to present O.L.P.B. with a GrIndie Award for their CD "The Big Fat Pet Clams From Outer Space"

"The Big Fat Pet Clams From Outer Space" is a classic east coast punk album with lots of humor and creativity, from O.L.P.B., or Oldest Living Punk Band. With their raw, powerful, dirty and angst-ridden sound, O.L.P.B. belongs inside CBGB, New York's famous punk club. The vocals are gritty and nonchalant and remind the listener of The Ramones while the humorous lyrics are reminiscent of The Vandals. The recording quality of this album is true to its east coast punk roots, so don't expect a slick, overproduced sound. "The Big Fat Pet Clams From Outer Space" opens with "I Used to Listen to the Radio," a quirky little reggae number filled with self-destructive humor and pleasant humming. "Queen Latifah" does not disappoint as O.L.P.B. makes a hilarious attempt to be with the times while incorporating an interesting musical arrangement. "God and Dr. Hawking," recorded live at CBGB in 2006, is another winner as it showcases the band's great performance ability and gives you a great taste of what they're like live. If you enjoy humorous punk and a Jersey sound, give the Oldest Living Punk Band a try.
